Beautiful Recycled Glass Tiles

What would you think of the prospect of a beautiful, precious, iridescent gem as the principal component in an architectural surface? How about an expansive kitchen countertop of same, all lined up in geometrical splendor—a translucent grid of 1” x 1” glass tiles sparkling in shades from ginger tea to smoky quartz? This is exactly what Hakatai has in mind with their Ashland Series of Recycled Glass Tiles.

Yes, you read that right. Not only are the Ashland Tiles wondrously strange and beautiful, they’re exceptionally green as well. Distributor Hakatai confirms that this lovely surface material is made from glass bottles that would otherwise be tossed out or recycled: “comprised of between 30 and 70 percent glass from bottles and/or other glass … this waste glass is a mix of approximately 90 percent post-consumer and 10 percent pre-consumer material.”

Hakatai’s Beautiful Glass Tiles are Comprised of  Up to 70% Waste Glass

Those are pretty impressive statistics, especially when you consider that the Ashland line is every bit—if not more so—as aesthetically pleasing as similar products made from newly manufactured material. The line is thus a testament to the rising contention that A&D product can be sustainable and beautiful, not to mention cost effective.

Indeed, the versatility of the Ashland line suggests that going green is wise in many ways. The 1” x 1” tile is appropriate for all manner of applications, whether interior or exterior, residential or commercial: walls, kitchen counter tops, backsplashes, and bathroom vanities for starters.
