Best Eco Design 2013

Best Eco-Design

Neighborhood: Cardiff
Designer: Lynn Wyndham Morris www.tot-home.com

What we love: The designer’s commitment to using materials that are not only sustainable, but stylish as well.
Interior designer Lynn Wyndham Morris says the biggest request she receives from clients is for environmentally friendly, sustainable products. Because many of them visit her house in Cardiff during the design process, she made the commitment to lead by example. “Everything is sustainable in some way,” Morris says. For the kitchen cabinetry, Morris selected a copper-colored African etimoe veneer. (Note the absence of hardware or pulls; everything is touch operation.) The countertops are made of leathered granite, with a natural, textured finish that requires no sealing or chemical treatment. The backsplash is made of 100 percent recycled tile from Bedrosians in Vista. The recycled plastic barstools are by Italian design company Calligaris. The result is a look that Morris calls “eco-luxury.”
