1) Textured laminate cabinet doors. A new ideas for slab style doors is a laminate with a textured finish. Using neutral colors in a modern kitchen and adding this detail, will personalize space and add an organic element, while maintaining a sleek, European feel.
2) Glass counters and cabinet faces. As a durable surface, glass is often overlooked. Using it as a solid surface by itself, over another counter surface, or combined with a colored backing, creates a unique and functional surface. Glass is nearly maintenance free, non-porous, hygienic, heat resistant, stain free, and textures and the ability to under-light make a fabulous design statement.
3) Combined organic materials on cabinets, counters and floors. Eco-friendly is not a passing trend. Using multiple organic surfaces - in sleek form and thicknesses - will become the norm. European style kitchens will make more use of neutral toned cabinets and warm, thick counters.
4) Architectural vent hood. As we move from strictly functional to more artistic appliances, one of the more visible ways to create an impact in the kitchen is with the vent hood. This is just one of many that are works of art as well as sources of light, and venting fans for the cooktop.
5) Custom cook-top. Shown at the Kitchen Trade Fair in Cologne, Germany. While there is not much information from Hettich (furniture manufacturer) their display featured a movable burner cook top. Not only can you customize the position for various pot sizes, you can use the remaining cook top as a counter surface.
