Complementing Design Styles

When you love to mix styles in your home, there are some ways make it work well. Check out these examples and see if they can resolve your issue!

1) Hand-me-downs and starter furniture can often be bland. Dress up the look of large pieces with dramatic accents.  This big box store sofa looks expensive when paired with a creative, textured cocktail table.

2) You own pieces in traditional patterns but want to modify them so you don't end up with a busy room.  Complement busy patterns on large pieces with clean-lines on smaller pieces much like this traditional loveseat and modern cocktail table, Don't add pillows; that will make the piece seem fussy.
3) You love modern furniture but don't want the hard lines to seem cold.  Straight squared pieces are best balanced by rounded or curved accent pieces.  An example is a sleek modern sofa, which pairs with a round cocktail table that mellows the lines.  Glass in the table will make it more modern, whereas wood will warm and soften.

4) You have some modern pieces and want to blend them into your traditional home,  Add texture and organic style, like this natural, organic mirror hung over a metal console.

5)  You have a great dining table but the chairs are too old to salvage.  The dining room or breakfast nook needs an update.  Pair chairs and tables in different styles,   A traditional table looks fabulous with modern chairs, and vice versa.
Add fabric chairs to sleek modern tables!
