We all like to collect magazines on design and decor right? What happens when you have three years of magazines and can't seem to access them because they're in a box or under the bed? Here is a do-it-yourself solution whose materials - and even the cutting - can be found at your local hardware or big box hardware store.
Yes, this is from This Old House, and we LOVE the idea, the simplicity and the flexibility if you elect to use other materials and bracket styles.
The parts list is a 1x board, some picture molding, wood glue, three brackets, and some 1 1/4" and 5/8" brad nails, and primer, paint or stain and urethane to finish.
1. Cut your board so you have a back and base of the correct length.
2. Remove the bracket frames so they can be installed flat onto your base.
3. Attach the base and back with 1 1/4" brad nails. Apply glue to the edges of all wood before nailing.
4. Attach each of the brackets starting with one end and spacing them equally.
5. Cut picture molding making 45 degree or miter corners for a perfect fit.
6. Attach molding with glue and 5/8" brad nails.
7. Finish and display!
